changes to part are made to whole doc; require undo button

If I make a change to any part of the text or to any part of a table, the change is made to the entire document, until I click on the undo button, which then applies the change to the specific text or table. How do I get W to accept changes without applying them to the whole document first?

More than likely your "Normal" Style is set to "Automatically update".
Place your cursor in a known problem area, click "Format", "Styles and
Formatting", scroll down to find the desired Style, click the dropdown arrow
and select "Modify", unclick the "Automatically Update" checkbox. Click the
"Add to template" checkbox, then OK.

It should be fine now.
