Changing default format for http references.

Microsoft Office Publisher 2003.

How can I set the default for http references in a publication so that it is
not a hyperlink? It is a nuisance to have every usage of http://something
converted to hyperlink format and then to have to go back through the
document and clear each one (and likely overlook several).

Find what? I could search on 'http://' but that would throw up so many false
results that it would be more effort than a manual scan, If there was an
option to search and replace a specific type of formatting (as in WORD) then
that might reduce the effort somewhat as I could do a global replace, but my
issue is that the text shouldn't be formatted in that style in the first
place (if I don't want it to) and I need to turn it off.

Obviously you are pasting this text from another document. If you are pasting from
Word, do this first:
1.. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the AutoFormat As
You Type tab.
2.. Under Replace as you type, select or clear the Internet and network paths with
hyperlinks check box.
Publisher does not have this option. When you type a hyperlink in Publisher it does
not become active.

Thank you for the response. It didn't occur to me that the pasting behaviour
might be different than the typing behaviour. I can't change the original
document, but I can use paste special to remove the formatting from the text
as it is pasted. It will be easier to re-insert any other lost formatting
than to remove the hyperlinking..
