changing monitoring settings in PWA

Hi, my name is Philipp Ritter.

Were using Project Server 2003 with the latest service packs. But we
have a small problem with gathering the time for a process. As far as
i know, there are three different settings available, you can set them
in the administration page in PWA under "configure Project Web
Access". Im using the german version of Project, thats why i dont know
the exact words in the english one.
In any event, we want to use the third one (working hours per day or
per week). Everything worked fine till some days ago.
Now, if an employee wants to record the time he/she needed for working
on a specific process in the process tab of PWA, he/she can only use
the second (middle) method on the list (actually accomplished work and
remaining work). I hope you understand what i mean.
That means, the colums on the right are inaccessible, we can only use
the middle ones (we can only write in the middle ones). Never mind
what option i set, its always the second one thats used.
Is there a way to change it to the option we would like to use? Maybe
directly in the SQL-Server database?

If you wish, i could upload a screenshot at imageshack, if you didnt
understand my problem.

Thanks in advance!

Hallo Phillip,

Liebe Gruesse aus Australien. :)
From what I understand from your post, one of your staff members cannot
enter actual work by day, but overall time spend on a task in PWA. You are
right with the settings in PWA. Fuerther to that, there is another setting to
force the Project Manager to use the setting chosen in PWA ( on the same page
as you described). Can you check if you activated this setting.

If not, the PM is able to change the tracking method and I assume that is
what happend on your project. You can check if my theory is correct by
assigning a differnt resource to this project and then checking if the new
team member has the same problem. If that is the case, then your PM has
changed the tracking method.

Unfortunatly once you have published your project with this tracking method
you are not able to change it anymore. The only way is to recreate the
project.

I hope this will explain the behaviour you experience

Hi Marc,

i have resolved the problem, this document solved my "problem".

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/ChangeTrackingMethod.htm

It wasnt really a problem, i just needed to republish the assignments
in the project-file itself.

Thanks anyway!
