Changing Pivot Point

B

Bailey

I have a CAD file that I imported and let's say it looks something like an
arm. Yes a real arm with an elbow and shoulder. When I select the object it
makes the center point the default point of which it pivots when using the
rotate tool. How can I change that point so that when you use the rotate
tool that it uses the shoulder?

This is not my real data but I think it gets my point across.

Select the shape, then menu Window -> Show Shapesheet
In the Shape Transform section you will see two cells, LocPinX and LocPinY, these are the
locations of the center of the shape and the rotation center. They will probably be set to
Width*0.5 and Height*0.5. If you want to change the rotation point to the bottom left hand
corner then set these to Width*1 and Height*0

Easier way: Click the shape with the Pointer Tool to select it, then move the mouse over the rotation symbol (round arrow): when you do that, the rotation axis appears and shows you the pivot point (located by default in the center of the shape) indicated with a tiny circle - zoom in if you need to. You can now click-n-drag the pivot point to wherever you need it - even completely outside the shape itself.
