character spacing

I have a character spacing problem that seems to defy resolution.

In Powerpoint 2003 chart edit mode text spacing is fine from a font
appearance standpoint. When I return to display mode the characters instantly
become compressed, pushing together. This compression continues in printing
mode. This result does not change when alternative fonts are tried.

I have re-installed Powerpoint 2003. Still no resolution.

This character compression result is new, implying I have done something to
cause this new feature. Co-workers are not having this problem.

Any suggestions??

I believe this can happen if you resize your graph/chart while in powerpoint
and not in what I call 'graph mode'. It's always best to double click the
graph (to enter graph mode) then do any resizing of either the graph - or
the placeholder for the graph.
