client access

All:

Does project server 2002 require clients to have project
on their local machine. I can access project through web
access, however I can not open any files or perform tasks
like I can with a client version of project.

Thanks,
George

Hi George,

Project Web Access provides the web interface to Project Server. PWA is
really designed to provide a read-only view of project schedules. Although
PWA does allow team members to update their timesheet and propose new tasks
(or delegate existing tasks), it is not designed as a 'true' Project
Management tool.

If you want to perform critical path management, update all the actuals on a
project and modify a project's schedule, you will need MS Project client (I
recommend the Pro version).

The next version of Project coming out this fall will add more web-based
capabilities, but the web front-end is still not a full-blown PM tool.

Hope this helps,

-Bill
