comment balloons & reviewing pane

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC

in some documents hitting "new comment" creates a balloon, in some it opens the reviewing pane
under prefs I have "use balloons to display changes" checked

then sometimes my balloons change into entries in the reviewing pane

I don't like the reviewing pane
how can I get the balloons to work?

Your balloons ARE working.

You are encountering some documents in which the balloons setting has been
turned off. Go to preferences and turn it back on: it's a per-document
setting.

You are encountering other documents where there are so many balloons they
won't fit: then Word uses the Reviewing pane instead. You should not make
so many comments :)

Hope this helps

thanks John, but as I mentioned in my email: under prefs I have "use balloons to display changes" checked. this is the first thing I look at.

I have one or two comments per document
I assume this is not too many

Hi Peter:

Right... You've got me...

Any chance these documents could be coming from PC Word 2007?

In PC Word, there is the ability to show various "kinds" of changes in
balloons.

I keep thinking that this is a "per document" setting, but I cannot find any
documentation supporting this idea.

You could try removing your preferences and see if that helps:
