How does one remove the complex scripts tab in Tools/Options using
Office/Word XP?

I don't know how it got there and would like to remove it?

Where in the Options dialog does this appear?

Hi Clayton,

If you have a Far East/Asian language enabled in
Office XP you'll have that dialog. Check in
Start=>Programs=>Microsoft Office Tools=>Microsoft Office Language Settings

Bob and Milly,
I have gone into Start=>Programs=>Microsoft Office Tools=>Microsoft Office
Language Settings and no Far East/Asian language is enabled.
I went to another machine which did not have the complex scripts in
tools/options and added Far East/Asian language to see if complex scripts
will appear which it did and removing it, removed it.

I still have no idea how to rid it off this machine :-(

Hi Clayton,

It could be a corrupted options key in Word
in the registry, but what languages other than
English are enabled in the Office Language Setting tool?

The only enabled language in Office Language Setting tool is
English (Australia)

The computer belongs to a customer of mine which contacted me last week
about Complex Scripts, I couldn't get rid of it, so I formatted and
reinstalled Windows XP and Office XP and it was gone for good, but she has
contacted me today saying it is back again, she teachers people to use
Office XP, I asked if she has any Asian students which she does and I think
one of them must have added it but it's causing problems and she wants it
removed, no one really knows how to remove it:-(

Hi Clayton,

In the language tool see if under 'Available languages'
it says '(all scripts)' rather than only
'Western European and U.S.'

Also check the language settings in the Keyboard/Speech
or Text Services features in the Windows Control Panel.

The templates used (including Normal.dot) may have
styles that use non-English languages and that could
enable the Complex script dialog as well. See
if starting Word 2002 in Office safe mode
(hold ctrl key when starting Word) removes that
dialog as it will bypass Normal.dot

Great, opening in safe mode has fixed it :) will it come back again? if so
should I trying deleting the Normal.dot file and let it create a new one
again on opening?

Thanks Bob

Hi Clayton,

Yes, it may come back again if a template or file
that uses styles with extended language features
is used. It's not clear what the problem is with
having that extra dialog (although you may also
have additional items on Format=>Font as well.
