Computer recognitions

For some reason, my computer has stopped recognizing PowerPoint extensions.
Unless I actually open a PowerPoint file out of the Open command while
PowerPoint is open, my computer acts like it does not recognize them and has
dropped all the PowerPoint icons off of them. Any ideas?

You seem to have lost your PPT file association.

You don't mention which version of Windows you are using, but these
instructions are for Windows XP:

1. Select any file with the PPT extension in My Computer or Windows
Explorer.

2. Right-click and choose the Open With... - this will open the Open With
dialog box.

3. You might find PowerPoint listed in the Recommended Programs list. If it
is not listed there, scroll down the Other Programs list and choose
Microsoft PowerPoint. In the remote possibility that you don't find a
listing for PowerPoint, click the Browse button and navigate to the
PowerPoint executable on your hard disk normally called Powerpnt.exe.

4. Make sure you check the option within the Open With dialog box that says
Always use selected program to open this kind of file.
