Conditional coloring of items in an organization chart

I have a organization chart in Visio and I want to change the color of
each box depending of the value of one of its properties. Something
like the conditional formating as I know from Excel.

Hi Martin,

Suppose you have a property called Prop.Color with a value of '12'
Then in theFillForegnd cell in the shapesheet (select shape and go to
Windows/Show Shapesheet) you place the formula "=Prop.Color"
Obviously if you use a color from the HSL schema you have to alter your
formula in the Prop.Color so that is represents a HSL combination like
HSL(0,0,240).

There is an add-on called Color By Values that was designed for use in the
building plan drawings but can be used in other drawing types like
organization charts. In Visio 2003 Professional, it's on the Tools menu
under Add-ons>Building Plans.

Hello, Seems exactly what I need. But I'm running Visio Standard 2003,
SP2, and I can't find that add-on. Do you know where I can
find/downlaod that add-on?

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, it's only in Professional, and it's not available separately
from Microsoft.

The upcoming release -- Visio 2007 -- has new tools for showing data on
shapes, including color-by-values. Beta 2 is available now at:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/beta/getthebeta.mspx?showIntro=n

The color-by-values functionality is once again available only in
Professional, so if you choose to download the beta, be sure to get Pro.
Instead of finding the feature under Tools>Add-ons, you'll go to "Display
Data on Shapes" on a new Data menu.

Hi René

I managed to change the cell in the shapsheet, I have stil some
problems choosing the right
HSL codes, but I can solve that part. But until now I can only change
the FillForegrnd for a particular object in my drawing. I would like to
give 200 object a conditional coloring in one statement. I was looking
in the stencil, but I couldn't find the FillForegrnd there.

I'm not sure what you are asking. At the start you mentioned that you
changed the cell, but later you say you can not find the FillForegnd.
FillForegnd and FillBackgnd are in the Fill Format Section. You may have to
look at the Sections dialog in the View menu to see if the Fill Format
Section is disabled.

You do mention 200 objects. If you want to change a number of objects, it is
better to change the master in the document stencil and let the changes
replicate to the individual shapes.

Sorry John, it seems a bit confusing to myself too. I ment that I
changed the FillForegnd of individual objects. Now I understand the
principle, I want to change the stencil, but there I can't find the
FillForegnd.
