Congratulations to you all for your maturity. Have a pat on the ba

P

Paul (ESI)

I just wanted to take a moment to thank and congratulate all of you for your
majurity and manners. For the most part, I don't see any petty bickering,
immature name calling, and otherwise pathetic bull crap going on in these
message boards. I wasn't sure where to post this, but I figured this one was
the best place since I go here most.

I've been a member of many message boards in my day, and there are always a
bunch of jerks lurking around. You could call them trolls, I suppose. It
really is pathetic. It is like message boards are a magnet for pathetic,
spineless cowards who inflate their miniscule self-esteems by attacking
others behind the safety of a computer and the anonymity of a net name. They
know they can get away with their tactics. After all, what can you do? They
are just some name on a web site.

I've seen such ridiculous things. One of my pet peeves is overly-opiniated
people. By this, I mean the nimrods of earth who are SO dead set on their
opinions that they think people are stupid just for disagreeing with them.
These folks seem to love message boards.

Gosh, I have so many horror stories. There was one message board I
frequented for YEARS. It WAS a great message board. We were all brought there
by a common interest, but we were so close that there were several off topic
sections where you could talk about ANYTHING. I considered these people
pretty darn good friends (as much as you can with online friends, I suppose).
After years, though, I had to stop going because a minority (but a big enough
minority) of the folks were such horrible people that they made me sick. It
just wasn't worth the aggravation.

God, these people were such scum. Often, it would seem they just liked to
pick fights with people for the sake of causing crap. They'd attack people
over such stupid things. Once, the group of losers started berating some poor
guy because he likes to quote sections of people's posts as he responds to
them so folks don't get lost. They tried to say that he did it in a way that
made it seem he was throwing what they said back in their faces. Trust me,
only an idiot with the maturity of a four year old would have come up with
that, the guy was just freaking quoting them so people would know which part
of which post he was responding to.

Once these idiots got a hold of something, they would not let up. You'd try
to defend yourself (who wants to just sit back and let a bunch of people
spread lies and twist your words into bad things you never said or even
thought?) only to have them twist around everything you say to try to make
you look bad.

Okay, okay, I'm going off on a tangent. Anyway, the point of this was to say
thank you all for being above that. Good to see the world does still have
some mature people. Anybody else have horror stories about message boards
they want to share? I'd love to hear it, and I'm sure others would too. Give
yourselves a quick break from the hard work of answering questions here. You
all deserve it.

Oh wow. Sorry that was so long folks. I just got off on a tangent there. I
didn't realize that was so lengthy! LOL. Still, I hope some of you take a
moment to read it. I'd love to hear other folks thoughts on the topic, and
your own stories of aggravating message boards.

Paul,
Thanks for your kind words about the folks here in these newsgroups. Still,
I think you should tell us what you really think about those other message
boards...<g>

He he. Yeah. Maybe I should go into more detail. That post wasn't quite long
enough. ;-) By the way, what's with the random "<g>" at the end of your post?
Does that mean something I'm not aware of, or was it just some big typo?

Hi Paul
By the way, what's with the random "<g>" at the end of your post?

It's a grin. Just about every acronym/abbreviation you'll see on the
internet can be found here: http://www.ollieclark.com/acronyms.html

And thanks from me too, for your kind words and observations. I'm sure I,
for one, would not spend so much time here if it were otherwise!

Hi Paul,

One sad fact you might not be aware of....

Many of the helpers on the Access newsgroups
are really just addicts...

they are addicted to helping people...

they cannot help themselves...

with apologies to John and Paul:

"And in the end,
the help you get,
is equal to the help,
you give."

OH! Grin. Okay, I get it. I know a lot of the net abbreviations, but people
always seem to come up with new ones I've never seen before.

I agree with you, Graham. If folks weren't so professional and polite, I
probably wouldn't spend so much time here.

LOL. No, no, really, I can stop being helpful any time I want to, maaaaaaan!

My favorite is <g,d,&r> -- Grinning, Ducking, and Running -- for those
particularly snide remarks that we might make ;-)

After all, this is just the Access help newsgroup. What could be so
bad about that? <g>
I would expect a little more controversy at a newsgroup called "Goth
political discussion" or "Gang representation".

Yeah, or any Internet Movie Database (IMDB) message board. Take it from me,
people seem ridiculously opiniated about movies. If you don't like a movie
they like, they think that makes you a moron with no taste in movies. If you
like a movie they hate, they think that makes you a moron with no taste in
movies. Either way, they aren't shy in spewing hatred and immaturity. Okay,
so not ALL of them are like that. The sad thing is, it seems they are
actually the majority, NOT the minority at IMDB.
