Connection to exchange server???

Ive just purchased Outlook and havent used it before, when I try and install
it, it says the "connection to the exchange server is unavailable" its a home
copy so Im not sure what to do.... Can anyone help?

When exactly does this message occur and what do you see just before it
does?

Version of outlook? Did you set up a profile yet? if so, go to control
panel, mail and delete it - create an new one with the proper account type.
