Controlling slide show from Excel?

This may sound line a crazy question, but I do have a use for it. Can I control a slide show from Excel? I'd like to create a button on an Excel sheet that can switch slides on a Powerpoint slide show. I haven't seen a direct method to do this, but thought I could have an event macro in PPT change slides, and then have Excel somehow drive the event.

If anyone has found a way to do this, I'd really like to hear about it.
