converting a word file to Adobe Acrobat 8

I'm writing an E-Book and email the word doc to a friend for editing. She
returned the edited version via email as an attachment which I saved. I
noticed that the document she sent me was a word doc it had ad editors tool
kit and I was able to go through the document and either accept or reject her
changes. This was great but now I want to convert it to Adobe Acrobat and it
won't let me. I get a dialogue box that said Adobe could not open the file
because it had probably been emailed (which it had) and hadn't been properly
decoded. My reason for converting it Acrobat is so I can offer the E-Book in
the Adobe Media Viewer as well as Microsoft Reader which I have already done.
Can you help?
