Converting AutoCAD to Visio

T

Terry Dickerson

Hello all,

I'm trying to convert an AutoCAD drawing to Visio. When I
right-click on the CAD object to bring up the conversion
menu, I don't get a Convert... item in the CAD Drawing
Object menu. All I see is Properties. Am I doing
something wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Maybe I'm just being dense, but isn't this just a matter of importing the
CAD file and saving as VSD?

Sorry. I forgot to identify myself in the previous
message. This is my reply:

Nope. It saves the drawing as an AutoCAD object placed in
a Visio file.

Odd, because that doesn't happen when I do it. I've performed numerous
imports of AutoCAD drawings into Visio and when I save them as VSDs that's
exactly what they are. I wonder what's being done different between our
experiences.

I get the same result whether I open the file using File>
Open or Insert>CAD Drawing. I have Visio 2000 and AutoCAD
2000--could that be an issue? Does Visio's import filter
treat everything as AutoCAD 14?

I'll have to look into it more. I've been using Visio 2002 & 2003, but I
don't recall experiencing your problem when I used 2000.

Terry,

That is probably because you have not unlocked the CAD
image....

Select the image then go to Formet/Protection and select
None.

Gene,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I get the same
result as before: no Convert tab on the Edit>Cad Objects or
popup dialog boxes. If I select "Save As..." the drawing
is saved as an AutoCAD object placed in a Visio drawing. I
wish I knew where the monkey wrench was.
