Converting MS Publisher file to .PDF file (Re the original)

Several days ago I wrote the following...

"Using Microsoft Publisher 2002 (10-2621-4291) SP-2
I made several parts of a Stationery Suite for a friend running a
new/small business, but he doesn't have MS Publisher 2002 installed on
his computer.

"No problem" I thought, as I have Adobe Acrobat 6 on my machine, so I
could just convert the files into .PDF files, but apparently I
cannot.."

Thanks for those who gave guidance, and help..

I should have explained myself more clearly. Sorry about that!

I have the full version of Adobe Acrobat 6. When I wish to change
a Microsoft Word file into a .pdf, it's no problem as the Acrobat
icon was installed into Word, automatically when Acrobat was
originallly loaded.

This isn't the case however with Microsoft Publisher 2002.
There is no automatic limkage, and when I try to make the
linkage *from* Acrobat, I get a message saying that there
is "No .pdf file of that name" (Obvious I suppose as the command
I'm using is "create a .pdf file.)

Help!

John.

The help files in Adobe don't offer brilliant advice on this matter
(although you can find the right set of instructions if you look hard
enough), but never mind, you've come to the right place.

Adobe have made add-ins that allow automation of the PDF-making process from
certian Office programs. However, they have decided that it's uneconomical
to create such an add-in for Publisher, so you have to use the manual method
(that can also be used with any application that can print).

The procedure is File > Print, and select the "Adobe PDF" printer fromt he
list of available printers. Then go to Properties > Adobe PDF Properties
and uncheck "Do not send fonts to "Adobe PDF"".
Click OK, and print your document. Nothing will come out of your printer,
as you did not have your printer selected in the dialog, but a PDF file
should come out of Acrobat instead (although sometimes one won't, if there
are images in your document that are too large or something).

As Publisher only prints printable information, things like hyperlinks won't
be preserved int eh PDF, and you will have to recreate those manually in
Acrobat. (Wouldn't it be cool to be able to click a hyperlink on a printed
page?)

If you've ever watched closely when running PDFMaker from Word or
PowerPoint, towards the middle (and end) of the process, you will see a
"Printing" dialog, as if you had pressed Print (with background printing
disabled). Interestingly, this add-in makes *two* printouts (one of which
is done after recolouring all the text in the document in Word - presumably
to sort out styles, hyperlinks, and bookmarks)
