What is the best way to convert a publisher file to a PDF file? Iam
publishing an email newsletter and want to create in Publisher.

The best way is to export directly from Publisher 2007. However, as this
product isn't available outside of beta yet, the next best alternative
is to use a pro-level PDF converter such as Adobe Acrobat. The next best
alternative to this is to use a free PDF converter such as PrimoPDF,
available from www.primopdf.com. The last option is the one most
commonly advocated in this newsgroup.

From these Publisher discussion groups, I discovered Primo PDF ... works
great for Windows environments. However, for a client for whom I create a
montly newsletter, I have to satisfy some hold-out Mac users (about 2,000
left!), and Primo PDF APPEARS to be a problem for the MAC guys. The client's
IT guy is troubleshooting for me, but his theory still is that Primo PDF and
MACs is the problem. Are you aware of any other troubles with that
combination? Or, can you recommend another "lower-cost-than-Adobe-Pro"
option?

What exactly is the problem? If Primo is incompatible with Mac OS client
there are a couple things to consider. First, Primo is *not* making a
standard Adobe PDF. Second, the PDF is somehow corrupted. Third, it is the
wrong version of PDF to be displayed with a specific version of Acrobat
Reader or Apple Preview. Those "hold-outs", are they using Acrobat 8 Reader?
That's the first place to look because it, Acrobat 8 Reader, will tell you
if the document is "corrupt enough" to not display.

Couldn't resist this one! :)

FWIW - I have PrimoPDF 3.1.0.2 running in VPC 7, Win XP & using Pub 2007 I
can generate a pdf (4-page newsletter), drag it to my Mac desktop,
double-click it & it opens perfectly in Preview without a hitch. (OS X
10.4.8, PowerMac G5).

Although it isn't possible to resolve the issue based on the minimal info
supplied in your post, it can be unequivocally stated that there is *no*
inherent compatibility problem with PrimoPDF & Macs. Without knowing more
about what you're vaguely referring to as "a problem" I can only guess that
the attachment is actually getting mangled by the security blackguards in
the Exchange Server setup... although any number of other possibilities
exist - including something as innocuous as a font issue.

As a test, try zipping the Pub before sending it out in order to shield it
from the Dark Side's executioners & see if it arrives in a more usable
form:) Let us know what the results are so others might benefit if it works.

If not, please provide as much additional detail as you can about the
problem, the process as well as the systems involved. I'll be happy to take
a look at one of the files if necessary.

P.S. - The only obstacle to peaceful coexistence is the mindset of certain
users (on _both_ sides of the street). Don't expect the number of
Macs-in-use to do anything but _increase_ over the next few years :)
