Copy data template to global

A

Anita

I've create a new data template for my network diagram that shows the
resource initials in the boxes instead of the names - how do I copy this to
the global template so that I can use it in other projects - I don't want to
import it every time.

Thanks

Hello Anita,

I suggest you create a new customize network diagram view from one of
the files with the customized data template. (Copy the existing Network
diagram view, rename the view, and then apply your customized data
template.) Then use the Organizer ( Tools > Organizer) to copy the
custom view to the Global.MPT (template) file. Then you will just apply
the view when needed to your new files.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi

It didn't work - I changed the data template in the normal view - copied the
network diagram view, added it to global but when I apply it to another file
it doesn't show resource initials - what am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help

Hi Anita,

Hmmm. I just tested again and when I apply the customized view to an
existing project file, the custom data template is applied to the
appropriate tasks. When you added the resource initials did you add it
to both critical and non-critical tasks? Are there resource initials
added to you other project file?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I've done it for critical and on critical - still not worked - probably me -
I'll try it later when my brain's had a rest!

Hmmm. Okay, let's take a step back -- you are using Project 2003 and
you have copied the customized network diagram view to Global.mpt. Did
you get any messages about not being able to save Global? It is usually
not required, but I don't believe changes to Global are actually saved
until you exit Project. If you exit Project are you seeing any error
messages about unable to save Global?

Take a break and drop back in after a rest :)
