Copying Figures from one document to another

T

Tannis

I'm putting together a technical document in Word 2002.
I've got all the figures in a separate document. I created
captions there (From the Insert
Menu-->Reference-->Caption). I'm now in the process of
copying the figures from the document where they were
created and pasting them into the main document. The
problem is that when I paste the figures, the caption
numbers change!

Anyone know what is causing this?

Hi Tannis,

Caption numbers are dynamic, they're supposed to change
according to where they're positioned. If you don't want
this, then select each caption number, then press
Ctrl+Shift+F9 to turn it into plain text before copying.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?VGFubmlz?=,
The thing is, the figures are positioned in exactly the same order in the two
documents. The first figure in the figure document is the same as the first
figure in the main document.Just because it looks like they're in that order it doesn't mean Word preceives
them this way. It all depends on the order of the objects' ANCHORS. All graphical
objects are anchored to a paragraph on the page; if more than one is anchored to
the same paragraph, then the order is usually the order in which they were placed
into the paragraph.

If you don't see the anchors when you select an object, turn on the display in
Tools/Options/View

Try dragging the anchor of the box that's out of order up or down a paragraph
(depending on whether you want it higher or lower in the order)
