copying files

When I open My Documents in Microsoft Word, and delete a file from the list - call it A.doc - the file is deleted, then a moment letter the following appears copy(1) of A.doc....I then delete this and I receive a moment later copy(2) of A.doc...I delete this and receive copy(3) of A.doc....I f I exit My Documents, this process goes on ad infinitum....the files copy themselves...I look later and copy (15) of A.doc is there, and so is copy of copy(15) of A.doc is there, on and on...a nightmare of duplication
Anybody know how to stop this? or what is going on? Please
