Copying tables

Cassie

I need to copy a blank one row table to several (over 20)
places in a document. Every time I paste I have to open
the paste options box and tell it to display as a table as
it defaults to text and nothing shows until I open the
paste options box and choose display as table. Is there
any way to make it default to display as table?

Are we talking about Word here?

If you copy a table and then paste it into another location in the document,
a table is what you get.

There is no Paste Options box in Word. There is a Paste Special dialog, but
"display as table" is not an option in that dialog.

There is a Paste Options button that appears when you paste in Word 2002 and
above. You may have it disabled, Doug (Tools | Options | Edit).

Have you tried saving the table as an AutoText entry and inserting it that
way?

I don't have it disabled and if you click on the Settings button in the
Tools>Options>Dialog, there is not entry that matches that referred to by
the OP.

My apoligies, I am using Word XP on Windows XP. I am
referring to the icon that pops up whenever you paste
something in an Office XP program. I have not tried the
Autotext entry idea as I am not sure how to do that.

Select the sample table, press Alt+F3, and give it a name. When you type the
first four (unique) letters of the name, you'll get an AutoComplete tip.
Press Enter or Tab, and the table will be entered. Or type the entry name
and press F3.

What button is checked when you expand the Paste Options Icon. On my
system, it is "Keep Source Formatting" and in that position, what is pasted
appears as a table. There is a "Keep Text Only item and if I select that
one, the pasted table is converted to text. However, the next time I paste,
it has defaulted back to "Keep Source Formatting"

I haven't found any way to alter the default setting.

On my system the choices are Display as Text or Display as
Table, the default is Display as Text which, since my
table is empty puts in a blank line.

I had a problem getting Auto Text to work but I did make
it work in Auto correct.

It must have changed in Word 2003
