Could I do a mail merge with Outlook 2003 and Office XP programs?.

I have a copy of Outlook 2003 but my Word is from Office 2000 and I can't do
a mail merge.

Office XP is cheaper than Office 2003, would the two be compatible? I just
need to do a mail merge between Outlook 2003 and Word or Excel.
