Creating a catalog

Hi,
How can I create a catalog that uses an excel database where I can adjust
the page layout using page content? I have tried creating my catalog using
catalog merge but do not once it is created get the chance to modify the page
content other than manually which effects every page the same. What I want
to do is have various page layouts in my catalog. I have tried using the
templates that come with Publisher where page Content is available to modify
the pages but then I can't it would appear use a database to create the pages.

Have you tried to convert the merge to a publication in step five in the Catalog
Wizard? This will allow any modification.

Hi Mary,

Thank you for yur quick reply. I have carried out step five and created my
publication but when I open it I don't seem to be able to find the facility
"Page Content" (that appears in the wizard when you choose a catalog) to
rearrange the position of the items on the page. I have looked in help to
find a reference to "Page Content" button but don't seem to be able to find
it.

Not sure I understand. When you convert to a publication, the merge is finished.
You cannot merge within the new publication. You can manipulate the items on the
pages, this was what I understood you wanted to do.
Do you have pictures? Are you having problems moving them around? Right-click a
picture in the merge, format picture, layout tab, change the object position to
exact.
