creating a new PWA site fails

R

Ryan

I'm trying to create the second PWA site in a Project Server 2007/WSS 3
environment. The first worked great, but the second is failing. It's hung
up at "Waiting for Resources" and never moves to "Provisioned." The first
time it did this I ended up deleting the whole web application and trying
again. How that one is still listed as "<Web application doesn't exist>"
(the HTML encoding is displayed on the screen as shown here).

So how do I get rid of the one that doesnt exist any more and how do I get
the one that's still waiting for resources to move on?

Thanks.

Were there any errors in the Application Log or ULS logs from the
failed provisioning process? What about for the error you are
currently experiencing?

Steve -
There's nothing in the event logs. I didn't know where the ULS logs were
until I looked into it after reading your reply. By now Fridays logs are
gone. Short of creating another site to fail to generate some logs, is there
something generic to start looking for? I can create another site if I need
to , but I've already got one good site and two bad... I don't want it to get
worse!

Thanks!

Well, I'd like to try to avoid having you make a new site. Tell you
what -- whatever graphics you attached didn't come through for me...
so if you send me an email off-newsgroup with the graphics, I'll look
into this a bit deeper.

I don't suppose you have any backups of the server from earlier in the
week that would have the ULS logs for the timeframe we are looking
for, do you?

Steve

I didn't send any graphics... don't know what that's about. I do have
backups of the server, but not the folder where these logs are. As I said, I
didn't even know where they were... oh well. For odd-ball reasons we can't
back up the whole thing. We have to be very selective.

I don't have physical access to the server, so I added the SSP user to the
local admins group and was able to log in via RDP. Was this just to test the
password?

Thanks for your help!

Try logging into the server with the credentials you used for the SSP, and
see if that works.

He meant try logging into the SSP Admin Site as the SSP user and try
provisioning.

Thanks for the clarification. I logged back in to the SSP admin site w/ the
credentials I used to set it up but am not getting different results. I've
got a ULS log now of me trying to delete a site that wasn't working while
logged in as the SSP user. Can I send that?

Certainly. Do you have a log of the failed provisioning as well, or
only of the deletion?

R

Ryan

I only have a log of the deletion. To provision I have to create another
site, right? I'm trying not to muddy it up any more if I don't have to. At
this point, though, it's not that big a deal. If I can't solve this by
Friday I'm going to blow it away and re-install from scratch. My test
instance didn't have any problems at all. Since I've installed in
production, though, I've got this. The good news, however, is that only IT
is using it and only with 4 projects. So it should be pretty easy to back up
what I want to save and restore it later.

Here's the log. line 70 shows the delete.

Hi Ryan, I've also been having this same issue, or atleast it appears as the
same problem. I was able to originally create a PWA site without any
problems, around a month ago. That site is currently being used for testing
and when we wanted to create a second PWA site we ran into the "Waiting for
Resources" status and it hasn't changed for over two days now. I even tried
to create two other PWA sites under different APP pools and still the same
thing, "Waiting for Resources".

This is the only thing in the logs I can see that references the PWA site
being created. I did not see any other event log entries or errors
referencing the PWA site.

Here is the log I have:
