Creating a new view!

I created my own view using MS Project. Is there a way to 'filter' Outline
Level 1 so that every time I open MS Project, Click the New View I created,
it will automatically show what I want but also with Outline Level 1?

Thanks ever so much for the help! Cheers

Hi New2Project,

By "Outline Level 1" do you mean the *Project* summary task that shows up at
the very top of the task sheet in row 0? If that is what you are looking
for, I'm afraid the answer is no. The display of the Project summary task
is controlled on the View tab of the Tools > Options dialog box.

You could create a template including with your newly created view and
enable the Project Summary task in the template. When you create a new
project file based on that template, the project summary task will
automatically be displayed.

Sorry if this is not what you are searching for. Please repost if I have
misunderstood.

Hope this helps.

Hello!

No I don't mean the project summary task. You know how you can go onto
Project>Outline>Show>Outline Level 1? Well everytime I click on my new view I
am having to do that all the time. I am just hoping I can click on my new
view and instantly it will show Outline Level 1 with the other group by and
filters I have created with it.

Hope that makes sense
Thanks JulieS

Hi New2Project,

Thanks for the clarification. Without knowing what other conditions are in
the filter or group this is a bit tougher, but have you tried adding the AND
condition to the filter:
[Outline Level] equals 1?

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

It did work and now it doesnt work. Well in the filter I put Outline Level
equals 1 OR Resource Name contains _____, OR Resource Name contain ____ etc
etc.

I grouped by Resource name, Project, Outline Number.

I thought it worked but it doesnt! Is it because I have filtered it
incorrectly? Maybe in the wrong order?

Take one of your text fields (Text 1, Text 2...) and put an "X" in for the
task you want to set a filter on. Crude but it will work.

Hi New2Project,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I am not sure what is going on in your
example.

When I created the filter:
Outline Level Equals 1
OR Resource Name contains "What name"?
OR Resource Name contains "What other name"?

and applied the filter, it works fine. I see all tasks at Outline Level 1
and the tasks assigned to the two resources.

You apparently have some other filter conditions set, what are they?

One thing I'll mention (on a long shot) is when I create a new view using
the filter I noted above, if I switch to the new view AND I had already used
the Show Outline Level 1 command in the Gantt chart view, the filter doesn't
work.

Does this describe what is going on?

Catfish Hunter,

Mmm...Im not sure what you mean, I just tried it but don't think I did it
right. As in:
Resource Names contain X
Resource Names contain X
Is that what you mean? If so, I tried doing this but it did not filter the
resource I want. Can you expand on what you mean please? Sorry to be a pain.
Thanks

My filter is:
Outline Level equals 1
OR Resource Names contain Ben
OR Resource Names contain John
OR Resource Names contain Judy
OR Resource Names contain Smith
OR Resource Names contain Sam

If I applied this filter straight to the normal gantt chart, it actually
does work perfectly fine. I have noticed that it does not work when you apply
the filter AND Group by Resource Initials, Project, Outline Number in either
my new view or the Gantt view.

The long shot thing you wrote - I have not noticed this yet, you are most
likely to be correct about it not working if you switch between views with
what you wrote.

Thanks for all the help JulieS
