Creating a standard quote using infopath?

I have been asked to create a web form that will be used for sales quotes.
Currently we use an excel spreadsheet. I am looking for a form that will
autonumber the quote number. Perform calculations on various fields in the
form and then submit the finished product to a sharepoint 3.0 site. I have
never used Infopath. Will Infopath work well for our quote form? How
difficult will it be to get caught up to speed in order to complete this
task. Can someone point me to some online resources to help me.

InfoPath is a great format for such a form.

Do you want a database to hold the data? Then you can still access the data
via Excel. Or have reporting via a webpage on sales information.
