creating hyperlinks

Hi.
Several of my users are getting frustrated when they are working with
documents that are located on our server.
The reason is very simple.
Every time the are working on a document that is located on our system and
they would create or change a hyperlink, Word automatically goes to Current
folder to pick up a document especially when the document they are looking
for is not in that folder. This can take some time, especially if the
network is slow or Current folder contains a lot of documents.

How can I change this default setting to one of the other options?
Such as
Browsed Page
Regent files

Looking forward to a solution.
