Cursor appears every 8 seconds or so in Word 2003

While in word, cursor is appearing every 8 seconds or so, even if there is no
action. I also noticed I am getting a screen flash in Outlook every so often.
When typing, cursor appears and causes a delay. Any help is appreciated.

Open Task manager, display your list of processes, sort by "CPU" and wait
eight seconds.

The process that is causing this will pop to the top every eight seconds.

It's something polling either an external disk or the internet. If it's
polling the internet, it's probably spyware :)

Make sure your AntiVirus is up to date, turn your Windows Firewall on and
run Microsoft Defender. That should shut it up, whatever it is...
