cursor image as black box

[whitneyw]

for some reason my cursor appiers as a rectangular black
box in outlook and even this application. it is hard to
tell where the cursor is when editing.

I am using windows xp home version

I changed monitors yesterday to see if that would change
anything - no luck

any suggestions
