Cursor size in Word

My cursor has changed to a small bar. Rather than a vertical bar the same
height as the text, it is more like a dot.

Firstly: How do I change it back to "normal" size?

Secondly (Though probably answered by the first question): Why did it change
in the first place?

Since I posted the question, the problem cleared itself. Taking a
"stab-in-the-dark" approach, I created a blank document (using my Normal.dot
template) which didn't display the problem. I then opened the document with
the problem and (like magic) it had vanished...!

I suspect your solution would have done the same trick but am now unable to
test it. I will if the proplem reappears.
