Custom Footer

Using Windows 2000- I was given a manual that is 71 pages
long that the author would now like it to be numbered. He
wants the "Index" portion of it to be roman numerals and
each section there after to be as follows 1-1, 2-2 etc.
Anyone have an easy way of creating customer footers? Any
ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Jill,

Windows version is nice... but which version of Word are we
discussing?

You'll want to insert Section breaks where ever the
numbering should change. You then position the cursor in a
section, and set the desired page number attributes via
Insert/Page Number/Format.

In order to use 1-1, 2-2 the user has to have used Word's
built-in HEADING styles for the "thing" in the text that
defines the chapter (or whatever that first numeral means).
