Customer Service Case template

Hopefully some can help - I just downloaded the MS Customer Service
template; it looks like I have all I need there to get up & going.
However, I have a few questions. If I have 3 staff (Bill, Mary, Jane)
logging calls (or "Cases") can I have the "open by" column
automatically populated with their individual staff name?
How do I create a "front end" - e.g. Bill, Mary & Jane have a button
to open up call logging only, while I have call logging and reports
buttons?
Or are there any other simple templates out there which I can use?
