Customer version msp-file

Hi,

using my msproject files also as a tool to follow cost-
evolution, our customers start asking for plannings in
msproject: what's best to do

a) create a copy without sensitive fields from the
original file - how to do easily?
b) scramble the information - how to do easily (macro?)

Dries,
There are many approaches to protecting sensitive information. The best
approach is determined by what information you do not want to share and
how much flexibility the customer wants. For example, It is fairly easy
to provide a customer with a hardcopy or electronic (e.g. PDF) file
containing only the relevant fields. If the customer wants an active
file, (i.e. one that can be manipulated by the customer), a simple macro
can be used to desensitize the file before providing it to the customer.
For example, if cost is sensitive, cost can be desensitized by setting
all resource rates to $1/hr. Similarly, resource names themselves can be
desensitized by converting to "Res A", "Res B", etc.

You will need to eliminate all resource and fixed costs.
You will also need to reset the baseline to eliminate any
historical data.

If you use a "resource pool" file you can create a copy of
the pool that has zero labor rates. You can simply connect
your "customer copy" project file to the resource pool
that has zero dollars and then reset the baseline.

If using the resource pool be sure to select the option
that the "pool takes precedence".

Hi,

thx for your help: any macros you know that are free on
the web to use to scramble?

Dries,
Yes I do have a macro but it desensitizes the whole file including task
descriptions. However, it does not desensitize customized spare fields.
If you can tell me exactly which fields you wish to protect (i.e. task,
resource and assignment), maybe I can help you. It might be easier to
write me direct and we can go from there.
