Customized Inbox View won't stick - how do i make it?

How do I change the view of my inbox and make it stay that way?

To sort incoming emails more effectively, I arrange my Inbox by categories.
I then collapse all the Inbox categories, so I just see the categories and
the number of emails in each. In order to then drag emails from the (default)
general category that all new emails come under into the categories I have
created, I choose 'Custom' - then pick 'Groups By' and then 'Descending' to
sort the categories so the the general category is on the bottom of the
screen, instead of at the top (default). I check the box for 'automatically
group according to arrangement' (which I thought would make the new setting
stick).
I then expand the general one, so I can drag and drop emails into the other
categories.

However, if I then change the View option in order to see message n the
Inbox sorted by who they were sent from, and I then go back to see them in
the Categories view, the categories now appear in the original, 'Ascending'
order. The way I had customized the Categories View will not stick, so I have
to constantly change the View to get it the way I want it to be.

If any one has any suggestions, I'd be very grateful.

Did you make a new custom view or edit the messages view? Try a custom
view...

I tried both - if I understand what you mean. It still doesn't stay....
