damaged database on Entourage

Hi, I wondered if someone copuld help me? My entourage email
account at work will not let me in as it's telling me there is a problem
with my database and do I want to rebuild? I have tried basic and
advanced rebuild but it wont let me do it because of a 'compacting
error'. I have had a call out firm have a look at it and the problem
seems to be my database is too big. It's coming out at 2GB at present.
Does anyone have any idea how I can retreave this information? or am I
a hopeless cause?

Thanks for your time

Lloyd.

If you can open, there are ways to reduce.

You didn't mention which version you were using....

Entourage 2001 has a limit of 2 GB on both the Database and Messages file.
It does not handle this limit very gracefully, so you may experience data
loss if you hit it.

The latest Entourage X has a 4 GB limit on the Database file (there is no
Messages file), and you will be warned as you near the limit. As you finally
get close enough, it will force you to compact your database. You'd have to
work really hard to lose data with Entourage X.

Note: You must use the 10.1.2 updater from MacTopia to get that 4 GB size
plus warnings. The earliest release version of Entourage X did not have
those features. Regardless, it is advised that you should update to 10.1.2
(or latest) in any case.
