Hello every1!
I have the following problem:
we have 2 Microsoft Project Server 2002 servers - one of
them is standalone server (Windows 2000), another - new
domain controller (Windows Server 2003 Standard edition)
the task is to migrate data from first standalone server
to new domain controller, what is the most proper way to
do it? Any bottlenecks? Is there any way at all to
transfer project servers databases without dataloss
between 2 servers? Any tools?

To migrate the database, just do a Full Backup and
Restore from one SQL Server to the other.

You'll need the MSProjectServerUser and MSProjectUser
passwords which are saved under in your registry under
HK_LM....Restore the database and then recreate the
logins under the Security tree (of SQL Server)and assign
the users to MSProjectServerRole and MSProjectRole
respectively.

When you reinstall Project Server, use the "Connect to
Existing Database" option and use the MSProjectServerUser
and MSProjectUser.

Install will take about 5mins then....but you'll have to
port over any custom ASP/HTML/DataAccess pages.

I would recommend doing this manually to maintain the data integrity around
items like outline codes and the project server resource pool.

For Views, Calendars etc. - use the backup enterprise global for the old
server, and then open this when connected to the new server with the new
enterprise global checked out, and use the Organiser to copy the views and
tables etc. into the new server.

For Resources - back up the resource pool to a plan with the same columns
set up as per the enterprise global on the new server, then open 1 resource
from the new server's enterprise resource pool, and then copy / past the
data from the backup resource pool plan. This will ensure that you don't
get duplicate resources and that the accounts are created correctly BEFORE
you import the plans.

For Plans - Either save manually to file, and then 'save as' to the new
server OR save the files off, and then use the Import Project to Enterprise
option from the enterprise options menu.

It may sound painful, but in the long run it will cause you less trouble.

regards,

David.
