Data not moving from folder to folder in custom fields

When we create a custom field in a task folder and then
take that task item from the original folder to another
folder the data from the custom field is no longer
accessible. We have tried creating the same custom field
in another folder. Still nothing. Has anyone ever tried
to use outlook in this manner...
