Dates

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) I have to work with excel sheets created on a PC with a very old version of Excel.

When i bring them over to my Mac and i cut and paste the dates into a new worksheet, the date is wrong.

Is there any workaround for this? I understand that excel in Mac has a different starting date.

Not sure why , but i understand that it is. What can i do about this.

Have a look at the information on this link.

The Date System is specific to the workbook file, so if you create a new
file with Mac Excel you can set it for the 1900 Date System. When you copy
dates in from a workbook that uses the same date system they will be
correct... It's just copying from files using the different date system that
causes the change to occur.

HOw do i change the date system on a new file?

So if i change the date system and then cut and paste the data from the old one , it should be fine???

XinXin

Excel Preferences --> Calculation --> Use the 1904 date system.

As long as the source and destination workbooks have the same date system, copying dates between should work fine.

You have to be careful with terminology here: work*sheet* as opposed to
work*book*.

In a new workbook or one which does not contain any date data, change the
Preference setting as XinXin described.

If a new sheet in an existing workbook file and *any* of the sheets in that
workbook already contain dates you Do Not want to do that (unless you're
willing to re-enter/correct that data). If you do, the dates you paste in
will be right but the other dates in the workbook will be adversely changed.
