Default folder expansion of message store when Outlook is launched

Does anyone know if it is possible to turn on/off the automatic
expansion of folders within a message store when Outlook is launched?

The default behaviour seems to be for Outlook to expand all stores to
show the hierarchy as it was prior to Outlook being shut down, with
the exception of the Public Folders store which always remains in the
collapsed state.

I'd like to be able to force my message store to remain collapsed when
Outlook is launched and leave it up to the user to browse to the
folders they wish to use, rather than automatically expanding the
hierarchy.

I've seen postings from people who have asked if there is any way
automatically expand Public Folders on launch and the consensus seems
to be that you can't do this, which probably means that you cannot do
what I would like to do either, but just in case I'm wrong I thought
that I'd ask.

Does anyone know if its possible to do what I'm asking?
