Default View

I would like to have the default view of my Project file to be the Gantt
Chart. I have followed the directions of the help file: Tools -> Options,
click on the View tab and select the default view you wish.
However, I have this set to Gantt and when I open the file, it always opens
in the Resource Usage view.

When opening the file, I can see the Gantt view for a brief second and then
the Resource Usage view opens instead.

I have tried changing the default view to other settings but the Resource
Usage one is all that will open on default.

Any ideas on how to correct this?

Hi Julie,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

The Tool/Options settings sets Project when you open a NEW project. Project
thereafter is supposed to open at the view it was showing when you close
down the project. So select the Gantt Chart view before Save and Exit.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))

Mike,
Thanks for the response. I have tried saving the file while in the Gantt
view and then it opens in the Resource Usage view.
One thought...would the Resource Usage view be coming up because I have a
resource that is overallocated? And project is reminding me to change it?
If this is the case, I'd still like to open Gantt view first. The
overallocation is several months in the future, nothing to be concerned with
now.

I wouldn't have thought so, Julie. Do all your projects behave the same
way? Try a new one.

I just figured it out.
In case anyone else runs across the same problem....
In the "Project Guide" toolbar, I had the Reports button selected. I
clicked on Tasks, Gantt Chart view, saved the file, opened it and the Gantt
view came up automatically.
