Delay when receiving new mail

I have a laptop running Win XP and using Outlook 2002.
When I receive a new email, it does not appear in the
inbox until I click on another folder (sent items,
calendar, etc.)
Is this a setting that I can change?
Thanks in advance for any help on this one.

we have a laptop user running outlook 2000 with the same problem
if he uses a different desktop, everything works fine
we have the latest Dat file, and have scan the disk
we have use adaware to check for spyware, etc

is this caused by a windows update ?
