Delay when switching to Word from other programs

Delayed from UK

I am experiencing a new problem when Word is open and I switch back to it
from other programs. Each time there is about a 5 second delay with the egg
timer showing. As I am constantly chaning between programs during the day,
this delay is beginning to drive me nuts.

Any suggestions?

I'm running Office 2003 on XP professional platform.
