delete an inserted auto shape that is behind the text

I am creating a form to check boxes next to a list of items and I used auto
shape to create the boxes, I then formatted to have them "behind" the text,
so now I can't click on them to move them or delete them.

Open your drawing toolbar and click on the 'select' arrow on the left -
just to the right of the Draw popup - and you should be able to select
objects behind the text.
