delete option is gone in word

My delete option is gone from my toolbar and in my box if I right click on my
mouse. After I highlight an area I have to manually hit the delete button
and the option delete (y or n) appears at the bottom left corner of my
document.

Has anyone had this happen and if so, how did you correct the problem?

On the General tab of Tools | Options, clear the check boxes for both items
that refer to WordPerfect.

That worked so that I could use the Delete key to delete a block of text.
However, the X for Delete is missing off my toolbar and when I right click on
the block to delete it with my mouse. What is the fix for this? Waiting
patiently for your response.

There isn't supposed to be an X for delete on the Word toolbar. CTRL+X will
cut the text to the clipboard.

And the icon for the Cut button is a pair of scissors, which might look like
an X.

Not only is my delete option gone from my Edit drop down menu, but it is no
longer there when I highlight text and right click, nor can I highlight and
use my delete key on my keyboard. This all started today and our IT person
is stumped. Would appreciate any assistance in restoring this. I've not
found any useful tips of information on the Microsoft Web.

explanation. I don't know that Delete has ever been on the Edit menu or any
shortcut menu, though Cut appears on both.
