Display Gantt Chart bars

B

Barb Reinhardt

Let me preface this by saying that I've used a previous version of Project
and this is my first foray into Project 2003.

I can't seem to figure out how to display the Gantt chart bars for the
project.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Barb,
In Project 2003 as in the previous versions :

Hope this helps,

I see in the Project FAQ #31 how to Customize Task bars and assign colors
based on a criteria assigned to a FLAG1 but what I need is to be able to
switch between different Legends for the Gantt bars and have the colors
change based on what Legend is chosen. There are a limited number of FLAGs
so that makes FAQ #31 difficult. Is there another way?

FYI...I would post a new thread but it doesn't seem to work.

Hello Brian,

The FAQ says "As there are 20 Flag fields, this procedure can be repeated
for up to 20 different selections."
I think that if you have more than 10-12 resources, these colors will not be
readable.

Hi,

By combining Flags you have 2^20 combinations (1 048 576)
Not enough? (There aren't that many combinations of colors and shapes!)
Switching between legends... is changing Bar Styles, they define what the
legend shows; seems only practical if you switch between views; then you
have to define multiple views.

We got spoiled from trying out www.alignent.com 's software called Vision
Strategist. It's too expensive. We were able to color the gantt bars based
on several categories or criteria. Like outsourcing lab:
10 labs - 10 colors + patterns
5 funding levels - 5 colors
3 Models - 3 colors
9 Blocks (upgrade version) - 9 colors + patterns
Custom label a legend and fill in field for each gantt bar and as you change
the legend drop down all the gantt bars change color and or pattern.

I'm trying to get Project to do this too with out programming VBA.
