Dissappearing macros?

PRR

I just tried to use two macros on my QAT and neither one of them
appear to be extant, anywhere. The links on the QAT are still there,
of course, but clicking on either of them brings about an error
message saying that the macro security settings won't enable the macro
to be displayed, or the macro cannot be found.

I looked in the View ribbon for Macros, and after selecting View, they
are not there at all, whether I look in normal template or all active
templates.

I renamed my current normal template, then used a backup copy of one
that I made in December, but the same thing happens.

Is it normal for macros to simply dissappear? I haven't done much
tinkering in Word lately at all. I use these every week or so at
least, sometimes 2-3 times a day so they couldn't have dissappeared a
long time ago.

Any suggestions?

Word 2007 is much pickier about what document or template can call them. In
W2003 any document could call any macro that was loaded into memory. In
W2007 a document or template can only call macros that reside in it. So,
make sure that the macros you want to use are in normal.dotm. Then add them
to the QAT for "for all documents (default)". If your macros must reside in
other templates, you must modify the QAT for those templates. And if the
macros must reside in a document, the QAT for that document must be modified.

The QAT in a document will show QAT items from normal, the document template,
the document itself, and any add-on templates.

The last sentence should be "The QAT in a document will show QAT items from
normal, the document template, the document itself, and any add-on templates
*that are loaded*.

Pam thanks for the reply. I usually do make sure that any macro I
create is created in the normal template. There aren't any macros now,
though, but for future reference I will be sure that they are in fact
saved there.

I thought your situation might be similar to mine when I first used W2007.
I had four add-on templates, each with macros, and macros in normal too. It
took a while to figure out why things weren't working and how to fix it.
Since that's not your case, I have no suggestions for why your macros
disappeared. Sorry.
