Distorted images when rotated

My images are distorted when rotated. They looks okay on the screen, but
looks smudge when printing. Using Word 2002. Someone suggested I copy the
image to Powerpoint and rotate from there, then paste back into Word. It
was still smudge and distorted. Thanks for any ideas.

Word's manipulation of graphics is dodgy at best, especially if the source
graphic was a JPG. The best approach is to prepare the graphic using a real
graphics app: set the orientation, size, and resolution. Then save the
source file and import that to Word. It is best if you make NO modifications
to the graphic in Word.

You can get superseded versions of programs like PhotoShop for a very few
dollars, which is more than you need for this sort of purpose.
