Divide work between resources

I have a task that has 3 assigned resources. The task starts up Decembe
1st, should finish as soon as possbible, and has a fixed work amoun
(based on estimates). I have two resources that work on the task 100
until it finishes. The last resource only works 50% from January 1st.

My problem is how MS Project divides the work between the resources.
want all the resources to work until the activity is done, but it seem
as they divide the work evenly after January 1st (when Resource
starts). This results in Resource 3 working a lot longer than the other
and the total duration of the task increases.

Current task usage:
1. XXXXXXXX
2. XXXXXXXX
3. XXXXXXX

Desired task usage:
1. XXXXXXXXXX
2. XXXXXXXXXX
3. XXXXX

I guess some of my settings are wrong and appreciate if somebody ca
help me.

(My current settings are:)
Task: Fixed units and effort driven
Resource 3: 50%, work contour: Flat, Work from: 1.1.2009

As per your post I understand that your resource works 100% but in the last
half duration of the activity. In this scenario, assign resource as 100%
only. Then in task usage sheet, for Resource 3, in the first half no. of
cells, change the usage to 0. Automatically then this resource will be
assigned 100% on last half of the duration.

If the resource works 50% on last half duration, first assign as 50% and
then follow the same steps.

Your settings are correct.
