Do not restart numbering over numerous sections

I'd like to force Word to continue a numbering string through several
sections. My document has sections that number automatically using the
section field, and subsections within those sections that use the
autonum field. I would like to see the numbering for the subsections
continue throughout the document. It would look like this:

Section 1: text
Subsection 1: sub text
Subsection 2: sub text
Section 2: text
Subsection 3: sub text

Is this possible? I've never used VB with Word before but am
definitely willing to try.

Thanks

I've never used an autonum field. If you use outline numbering, what
you want is easy to achieve: simply set the level 2 numbering style to
NOT restart after a level 1 paragraph. (It's also easy to get outline
numbering to label level 1 paragraphs as "Section 3" or "§ 10" or
whatever text you want.)

Numbering in Word has its own special pitfalls which you may want to
read up on at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Numbering/index.htm.
