document locked for editing word 2000

I am having a problem when I tried to save my document to a floppy it gave me
an error that my document is locked for editing. I am not able to find my
work that I just spent hours on. Is there any way to recover all of my work?

Never ever read from, write to or print from floppy with Word. This is the
most certain method of ensuring document corruption. Always work from the
hard drive.
